2nd year MBBS student of Krishnagiri Medical College slips into coma after birthday prank, 4 suspended
Krishnagiri: A birthday celebration soon turned into a nightmare for a 20-year-old medical student of Krishnagiri Medical College after his friend pulled up a prank on him leading him to fall into a coma. Four students have been suspended in connection with the case.
The four students were accused of pushing the student into a coma after they allegedly piled up on top of each other with the victim on the floor as a birthday prank.
The victim is a 2nd-year MBBS student at the college and a resident of Chennai who celebrated his birthday on March 10 at the hostel campus of the college.
The student celebrated his birthday with his four friends in their hostel room. While they were having fun with the birthday boy, his friends decided to prank the student and all of them piled on him.
As a result, the nerve leading to the brain from the neck area of the student was severed and he fainted. Following this, the student did not respond for a long time even after repeated attempts to wake him up.
Afraid of his condition, his friends called the hostel in charge and the student was rushed to the hospital unit of the medical college where doctors declared him brain dead.
However, the student’s parents shifted him to a private hospital in Bengaluru for better treatment. Currently, the student's condition has not improved and is reported to be the same.
Taking action against the four students, the dean of the college suspended them and refused to comment on the matter. When asked about the consequences of the action, the dean told TH, “Investigation is going on.”
