3 new medical colleges in Gujarat to begin academic session this year with 150 MBBS seats each

Ahmedabad: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants, three new private medical colleges with 150 MBBS seats each are set to begin academic sessions from 2023-24 following the approval of the Union Government.

The three new medical colleges include Ananya College of Medicine and Research at Kalol in Gandhinagar, SAL Institute of Medical Sciences at Sola Road in Ahmedabad, and Swaminarayan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at Kalol in Gandhinagar.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a huge number of 50 new medical colleges have been approved this year with an intake capacity of 8,195 MBBS seats.

With this, the total number of UG medical seats in the country has been increased to 1,07,658, official sources informed PTI on Thursday. With the addition of these 50 colleges (30 government and 20 private), the number of medical colleges in the country now stands at 702, they said.

According to sources, these 50 new medical colleges have been approved in Telangana, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Nagaland, Maharashtra, Assam, Karnataka, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.

In Gujarat, the centre has approved three private medical colleges which is expected to improve the medical infrastructure of the state and provide more opportunities to the medical aspirants. This comes at a time when the medical aspirants in the country are concerned about the derecognition of several medical colleges.

As per a media report in TOI, there are currently 36 medical colleges in the state with about 7,000 seats. With the addition of the three colleges, the state will have 39 medical colleges with about 7,450 seats.

The Union Government has taken this initiative to enhance medical education and healthcare infrastructure accessibility in the country.
