New Delhi- Out of the 600 MBBS seats in 10 new Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) medical colleges, 300 MBBS seats are expected to be reserved for children of 3.72 crore insured ESIC beneficiaries in the academic session beginning in August 2025.
The 10 ESIC Medical Colleges are at Andheri (Maharashtra), Basaidarapur (Delhi), Guwahati Beltola (Assam), Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Ludhiana (Punjab), Narodabapunagar (Gujarat), Noida and Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Ranchi (Jharkhand).
Admission of MBBS students in these ESIC medical colleges and hospitals will be through the NEET 2025 exam. Of the ten, ESIC Model Hospital and PGIMSR Basaidarapur, Delhi and ESIC Model College Indore will have 100 MBBS seats each, while the remaining eight will have 50 seats each.
According to a PressReader news report, the Ministry of Labor and Employment has decided to reserve about 50 per cent of the total seats for ESIC-insured persons or employees. Also, seats have been reserved for people working in factories earning up to Rs 21,000 per month.
Meanwhile, these 10 medical colleges were approved in the 194th meeting of ESIC held on October 8 last year. This decision has been taken to create 75,000 new medical seats in the next five years. These medical colleges and hospitals will serve ESIC-insured persons and their families and beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).
At present 51 hospitals are run directly by ESIC, and 109 are under the control of the states through the ESI scheme. In addition, there are 1,502 ESI dispensaries in the country, of which 36 dispensaries are directly run by ESIC and 1,466 dispensaries are run by the states under the ESI Scheme (ESIS).
