AIIMS Gorakhpur to launch new DM, PDCC, Fellowship, nursing courses

Gorakhpur- Taking a step towards academic expansion, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Gorakhpur, recnetly approved several new academic programmes, advanced medical training and strengthened research at the institute.
The decisions were taken during the 8th meeting of the Standing Academic Committee, chaired by Executive Director Dr. Ashok Jahnavi Prasad, AIIMS Gorakhpur.
AIIMS Gorakhpur has approved a total of 13 new academic programmes, including DM, PDCC, Fellowship and nursing courses, to strengthen advanced medical education, post-doctoral training, and allied health sciences.

During the meeting, subjects such as DM in Neurology, DM in Pain Medicine, DM in Clinical Pharmacology and DM in Critical Care Medicine under the Department of Anaesthesia, Pain Medicine and Critical Care were approved. In addition, post-doctoral certificate courses in trauma anaesthesia, spine trauma, pelvic-acetabular surgery and adolescent gynaecology were also approved.
However, many of these courses, including the PDCC in Adolescent Gynaecology, are the first of their kind in India. Similarly, a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine under the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology was also approved. Moreover, MS in Trauma Surgery, PhD in Nursing, MSc in Nursing Psychology and BSc in Operation Theatre Technology degrees were also approved.
Meanwhile, the medical academic and institute's executive director, Ashoka Jahnavi Prasad, elaborated on the pressing issue of rising student suicides across institutions and highlighted the urgent need for providing sustained psychological support and preventive interventions within the institute. He emphasised that initiating dedicated courses such as the MSc in nursing psychology will strengthen the mental health workforce and ensure greater accessibility of psychological care to students and the community at large, reports TOI.
