Andhra Medical College associate professor suspended over misconduct, abuse, sexual harassment allegations by PG medicos

Doctor suspended
Vijayawada: An Associate Professor of General Surgery at Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, has been suspended after postgraduate students accused him of harassment, abuse of authority, and unprofessional behaviour, including allegations of sexual harassment.
The Director of Medical Education (DME), Andhra Pradesh, placed the professor under suspension with immediate effect pending disciplinary proceedings, exercising powers under Rule 8(1) of the Andhra Pradesh Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1991.
The action was taken after multiple complaints were submitted by PG students of the institute, who alleged that the faculty member subjected them to mental and verbal harassment and misused his position of authority. Female postgraduate students also raised allegations of sexual harassment against him.

After receiving the complaints, the college constituted an Internal Complaints Committee headed by Principal Dr Sandhya Devi to examine the allegations. The committee conducted an inquiry and submitted its report to the college administration on June 16, 2026.
Based on the complaints and the findings of the Internal Complaints Committee, the DME found sufficient grounds to initiate disciplinary action against the professor.
Invoking powers under Rule 8(1) of the Andhra Pradesh Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1991, the DME ordered his suspension until further orders, reports TNIE
As per the suspension order, the professor's headquarters during the suspension period will remain at Visakhapatnam, and he has been directed not to leave the headquarters without obtaining prior permission from the competent authority. The order further stated that he will be entitled to a subsistence allowance as per the provisions of Fundamental Rule 53 during the suspension period.
The Principal of Andhra Medical College has been instructed to take necessary action in accordance with the suspension order. Further disciplinary proceedings against the faculty member are expected to continue based on the inquiry findings and subsequent examination of the allegations.
