Hisar: Fed up and depressed with alleged ragging and sexual harassment by two seniors, a third-year MBBS student of of Maharaja Agarsain Medical College attempted suicide by jumping from the window of the first floor of Jindal Private Hospital in Hisar on Saturday.
As per various media accounts, the medico suffered injuries and was admitted to the hospital after the incident. She was discharged from the hospital on Monday following which she lodged a complaint with the police.
In her complaint, the victim mentioned that two weeks after taking admission for the MBBS course in 2018, two second-year girls allegedly started torturing and ragging her.
On the day of the incident, the medico had visited the hospital to tell one of her former teachers, who is now employed in Jindal Hospital in Hisar, that two senior students were harassing her since last three years. In her complaint, the medico added that she jumped off the terrace of the hospital after meeting her former teacher.
Prior to this, the medico had made an informal complaint against the two senior girls to the hostel warden. However, the two seniors allegedly threatened her not to inform her family about anything, else they would ensure to fail her in the exam, and even threatened to push her off the roof of the hostel.

When she started resisting their alleged harassment, she was boycotted in the hostel and a message was dropped on the WhatsApp group stating that no one should talk to her. Due to their consistent harassment, she went into depression, reports The Tribune.
According to a media report in Hindustan Times, the medico alleged that, "They were mounting pressure on me to bring liquor for them and consume the same. When I denied, they abused me and tried to sexually assault me. I had narrated the incident to the hostel warden but no action was taken against them."
"Both the seniors threatened to throw me off the hostel building if I narrated the incident to anyone. In 2019, my teacher had called both the seniors when I had lodged a complaint before him but they continued to harass me," the medico added.
After receiving the complaint from the student, an FIR was registered by the police against two fourth-year MBBS students of Maharaja Agrasen Medical College under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 499 (defamation), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under the Anti-Ragging Act.
Informing that a high level committee has been formed to investigate the incident that would submit its report within three days, Maharaja Agrasen Medical College Director Dr Alka Chabra told HT, "We will take strict action against those found guilty in the case. "
