Dr Radhakrishnan Govt Medical College to Start PG Medical Courses
Shimla: Very soon Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College (RKGMC) at Hamirpoor will commence admissions in postgraduate medical courses, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced recently.
Already the State has given its approval for creating and filling the posts of six associate professor and 10 assistant professors in key departments including general medicine, paediatrics, general surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, and radiology.
Pointing out that specialists form the backbone of the healthcare services in the medical colleges and hospitals, the CM added that it was essential to introduce post-graduate courses.
As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the Chief Minister mentioned that in order to address the growing patient load at Hamirpur Medical College and Hospital, it was urgently required to introduce the postgraduate courses in various other specialities to improve the patient care and healthcare services. He added that the essentiality-and-feasibility certificate for introducing the PG courses in the departments of ophthalmology, dermatology, and physiology had already been issued.
The Chief Minister also said that the State Government has also sanctioned the creation and filling of 150 posts of nurses at Dr. RKGMC, Hamirpur. He said, "The government is committed to ensuring optimal patient-to-nurse ratios, with a 1:1 ratio in ICUs, 1:2 in labour rooms, and 1:4 in antenatal general wards."
Further, the CM added that the State is focusing on strengthening medical colleges across the State, and over the past year, 1,182 new posts of various categories have been approved for Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda, in Kangra district.
CM Sukhu further mentioned that similar efforts were being made to ensure adequate staffing and infrastructure at Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College Nahan, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College Chamba and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital Ner Chowk, Mandi to facilitate the patients. He further added that world-class medical equipment and machinery are being produced to modernise the healthcare sector of Himachal Pradesh.
These announcements come at a time when recently the NBE temporarily suspended the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) courses in the State. Due to this, no DNB seats will be allocated in the state for this academic year i.e. 2024-2025.
NBEMS has suspended seats courses temporarily in the State due to a pending course case filed by some students challenging NBE's decision of transferring some students from one college to another due to the issue of non-payment of stipend.
