Dr. Rajan Singla appointed New Principal of GMC Patiala
Dr. Rajan Singla has been appointed as the new principal of GMCH, Patiala.
Patiala: The Government Medical College and Hospital, Patiala, was appointed with a new Director-Principal, Dr. Rajan Singla, on Saturday, 18th September 2021.
In addition to this, professor of medicine Dr Raminder Pal Singh Sibia has been made vice principal and Dr Harnam Singh Lekhi has been designated as medical superintendent.
According to Tribune report, Dr. Avnish Kumar has been removed from his post due to administrative reasons and in public interest."
However, Punjab Medical Education and Research Minister, OP Soni, said that these changes had been made to invigorate the work of the medical college and hospital and it would further energise the staff to work with more zeal. He further added that during his last visit to the hospital, he had felt the need to change the administrative structure in order to make working in the college more efficient, reports TOI.
Meanwhile, Dr. Singla, in a Facebook post, thanked his colleagues for their support during his tenure as the college principal. In addition to conveying his gratitutde, he also referred to the incident in 2020, when he had suspended over 300 students for skipping a COVID-related meeting and said, "I might have been unruly and harsh to someone, but it was all for the welfare of the institute, patients and students."
The Government Medical College, Patiala, is the second oldest medical college in the state of Punjab and is affiliated to the 1009-bed Rajindra Hospital as well as the 121-bed Padma Shri Dr. Khushdeva Singh Chest Diseases Hospital, popularly known as the TB hospital. GMC, Patiala, caters to a large section of the population in Punjab and churns out proficient medical graduates from the state, every year.
