Final year BDS student sets herself on fire in hostel room, dies
Khammam: In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old student of the BDS fourth-year course committed suicide by setting fire to herself in her hostel room in Khammam, Telangana.
According to the police, the deceased was in the final year of her BDS course at Mamatha medical college, Khammam and was residing in a hostel located opposite the BDS college.
Around 5 pm on Sunday, she took an extreme step by pouring petrol on her body and setting herself on fire. The incident was noticed by her neighbouring roommates who saw the fire coming out of the room of the student. Following this, the students were scared and informed the hostel administration.

When the hostel authorities arrived at the scene, they saw the student getting completely burnt in the fire. As soon as they broke open the room's door, they started pouring water on her burning body but it was too late.
Immediately, they contacted 108 medical emergency services and informed the police about the incident. She succumbed to 80 per cent burns before police reached the spot. When the police arrived, they found the student dead and sent her body for postmortem examination.
While investigating the case, the police recovered the CCTV footage of the hostel where the student was found buying petrol from a petrol station. Although the police suspect that she committed suicide because of family disputes, the real reason behind her death remains a mystery until the investigation into the case is over.
The police registered a case and initiated an investigation after transferring the body to the government hospital. As per a media report in DC, the police also informed the family members of the deceased about the horrifying incident.
Further investigation is currently underway, added the police.
