FIR lodged against 3 PG medicos for allegedly molesting intern
Kolkata: Based on the complaint of a 26-year-old medical intern, an FIR has been filed against three of her seniors at a government medical college, here for allegedly making sexual remarks and molesting her at the workplace.
The victim intern moved a case of sexual harassment at the Kolkata police station against three of her colleagues, two were from the first-year postgraduate batch and one was from the second-year post-graduate batch.
Hearing about the incident, the state health department assured the victim that an inquiry would be conducted and strict action would be taken against the trio if they were found guilty of their crimes.

According to the victim, the seniors made sexual remarks about her and molested her by touching her inappropriately. When the situation became worse, the intern decided to inform the police about the harassment.
A complaint was lodged against the seniors based on the victim's statement following which the police registered an FIR Section 354 (use of assault or criminal force upon a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), Section 509 (criminalizes the use of words, gestures or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and Section 354 A (making sexually coloured remarks, shall be guilty of the offence of sexual harassment) of IPC.
An application has been made by the police for a magistrate to record the complainant's statement under Section 164 of the CrPC (talks about the statements recorded by Magistrate: Sub Section (1) authorizes the Magistrate to record the statement of a person or his confession, no matter whether he possess jurisdiction in the case). For a crime against a woman, the victim’s statement recorded before a magistrate acts as primary evidence.
“The woman has mentioned in the complaint that the accused men had made objectionable remarks with sexual connotations about her. She has also alleged that they had intentionally inappropriately touched her,” an officer of the police station told The Telegraph
“An inquiry has been started. We will take feedback from the college before taking any action,” said an officer at Lalbazar.
Meanwhile, an investigation into the case has started with the cooperation of the principal of the college.
