GIMS starts MBBS internship program for 2019 batch
Uttar Pradesh- The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Noida, Uttar Pradesh has started an internship program for MBBS students from this academic year 2024-25. Recently, the first group of 86 MBBS students of the 2019 batch of GIMS were oriented on this MBBS internship programme.
Along with this, a dedicated library and reading room will also be established to facilitate the medicos for this internship. The library is expected to open during this academic year.
Speaking to TOI, GIMS Director, Brigadier Rakesh Gupta said “The introduction of mandatory internships is aimed at providing hands-on experience and practical exposure to the students, which is essential for their professional development”.
Rakesh Gupta further added, “It will allow students to work closely with experienced medical professionals and engage in patient care, thereby honing their clinical skills”.
Talking about the library, the Director mentioned that “This space will serve as a resource centre, providing access to a wealth of medical literature and a quiet environment for study and research. Generally, students do not take internship options, thinking they won't get time for NEET preparation. However, at GIMS, we have designed it in a way that students can prepare for NEET PG too. The GIMS faculties and doctors will help in their internship and students will get a govt medical certificate post completion”.
The MBBS internship program is mandatory for all MBBS students as it is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world medical practice. This internship will play a very crucial role for MMBS students as it will provide practical experience to the students which will benefit their future career as a doctor.
