GMC Handwara gets accreditation for DNB Emergency medicine

Jammu & Kashmir: GMC Handwara has received the accreditation for the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) program in Emergency Medicine.
With this, the institute has become the first medical college in Jammu and Kashmir to get the accreditation for the course.
Officials informed that the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has granted accreditation for 10 additional DNB/Diploma seats.
Also, Dr Mir Wasem, the medical college's DNB nodal officer, stated that with these new seats, the total sanctioned capacity has increased to 34.
According to a RisingKashmir news report, Dr Mir Waseem said that GMC Handwara has become the first medical college in J&K to be accredited with 4 seats in Emergency Medicine, a distinction previously held only by SKIMS, which had 2 seats in this speciality.
Furthermore, medical college officials stated that this is a major step toward improving healthcare services in Handwara. The DNB program will not only provide advanced training to doctors but will also benefit patients by ensuring specialised care in remote areas. Meanwhile, the principal stated that the new GMC will advance as a leading academic institution, as patients will benefit from greater accountability and improved medical services.
This achievement is a significant milestone in strengthening postgraduate medical training in the UT and further enhancing the academic profile of GMC Handwara.
DNB courses were introduced in the old GMCs and SKIMS, as well as in the district hospitals and new government medical colleges, to strengthen the institutions, decongest the government medical colleges, and address the shortage of specialists in J&K. The DNB course was first introduced in five selected district hospitals and CHCs, and following its success, it was expanded to other district hospitals in J&K.
