GMC Paderu to start functioning from 2024
Vijayawada: Providing the medical aspirants in Andhra Pradesh a reason to celebrate, the Government Medical College in Paderu will become functional from the next academic year 2024-25 after the construction of the college is over.
The confirmation in this regard came from the Minister for Health, Medical and Family Welfare Vidadala Rajani while she was inspecting the construction work of the medical college on Tuesday.
MT Krishna Babu, Special Chief Secretary (Health, Medical and Family Welfare), MLA of Paderu Bhagyalakshmi, Araku MP Goddeti Madhavi and Araku MLA Setty Phalguna were present at the site.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that The government is setting up 16 new medical colleges at a total cost of Rs 7,880 crore and has initiated measures to fill more than 40,000 posts in government hospitals.
These new medical colleges will come up at Paderu, Vizianagaram, Anakapalli, Rajahmundry, Palakollu, Amalapuram, Eluru, Machilipatnam, Bapatla, Markapuram, Piduguralla, Madanapalli, Pulivendula, Penukonda, Adoni and Nandyal.
The foundation stone for the Paderu Medical College was laid by Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy about three years ago. The works were in foundation stage until Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy sanctioned Rs 500 crore for the construction of the medical college.
Meanwhile, Rajini told TNIE that a new medical college will start in Parvathipuram-Manyam soon. The government has decided to spend Rs 600 crore on the project. In this way, tribal students will have the opportunity to pursue their dreams in the medical field.
Five medical colleges at Eluru, Vizianagaram, Rajamahendravaram, Nandyal and Machilipatnam districts of the State will commence the MBBS admission process in 150 MBBS seats each this year.
Apart from this, the government is also spending Rs 264 crore for the construction of five super speciality hospitals in tribal areas in the State.
