Govt approves establishment of 5 new Super-Specialty Departments At VIMSAR
The Odisha State government has given the green signal for opening of five new super-specialty departments at VIMSAR, Burla.
Sambalpur: The Odisha State Government has recently given approval for 5 super speciality hospitals to open at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla. The new departments that will soon be functional are Endocrinology, Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Gastroenterology and Clinical Haematology.
This is intended to provide better healthcare to the local population as VIMSAR caters to the healthcare needs of at least 10 districts of western Odisha besides neighbouring states like Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Lakhs of patients will be benefitted after the super-specialty wing of the hospital becomes functional.
In addition to the inauguration of the five super-specialty departments, a six-storey building on VIMSAR premises is under construction and is expected to be completed by December 2021. The building will house the new departments. Furthermore, the four already existing super-specialty departments of Nephrology, Urology, Neurology and Neurosurgery will also function from the six-storey building.
Dr. Lalit Meher, the Director of VIMSAR, said the government has also approved appointment of one professor, associate professor, assistant professor and senior resident for each of the new super-specialty department. The appointment process is expected to begin soon.
Official sources told the New Indian Express that the super-specialty building will accommodate 60 ICU and 180 general beds.
Director Meher further went on to add that these super-speciality departments were a long pending demand of people of the region. After the departments are functional, people residing in the catchment area of VIMSAR will not have to go outside to avail super-specialty healthcare facilities.
The construction work for the new wing is being carried out under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana and is expected to be completed and ready for use by December 2021. The addition of the new super-specialty departments to the hospital will greatly improve infrastructure and the quality of healthcare available to the local population, especially in the wake of the second wave, which saw a dearth of medical services in the country.
