Hostel eviction, document delay row ends as GMC Anantnag addresses interns' demands

Doctors
Srinagar: Interns at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, have alleged that they are being forced to vacate hostel accommodation and are facing delays in receiving important registration-related documents.
In a representation shared with the media, a group of interns claimed that the college administration has directed them to leave their hostel rooms despite the availability of several vacant rooms on the campus.

The interns had alleged that the administration was withholding key documents, including provisional certificates and other paperwork required for obtaining provisional registration, as per a Kashmir life media report.
Reacting to the issue, Dr Wasim Khan, Founder of the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Students Association (JKMSA), had condemned the alleged eviction and withholding of documents.
"GMC Anantnag interns are being unfairly forced out of hostels while their registration documents are withheld. This violates NMC guidelines and endangers careers. Authorities must release documents and provide accommodation immediately!" he said in a post on X.
The association had also urged the administration to address the interns' concerns and resolve the matter at the earliest.
"Positive development at GMC Anantnag! Kudos to the authorities for addressing the concerns regarding intern housing & essential documentation. Collaborative efforts between administration & students pave the way for a better work environment. Keep it up!" he wrote.
JKMSA also appreciated the administration's action, stating, "GMC Anantnag's administration truly deserves appreciation. Addressing and resolving the issues faced by interns promptly is a commendable step. Prioritizing the welfare of trainees is a hallmark of excellent leadership. Well done!"
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Government Medical College, Anantnag, summoned two MBBS students and issued them disciplinary notices for posting videos on social media publicly raising the issue of the low stipend of MBBS and BDS interns across medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir and demanding a stipend hike.
