Jamnagar Medical College Rejects ragging Allegations by First-Year MBBS Student
Rajkot: The first-year MBBS student's allegations of mental torture against a resident doctor have been rejected by the anti-ragging committee of Jamnagar's M P Shah Medical College. The G G Hospital of Jamnagar is affiliated with the medical college.
The first-year student claimed in an email written last Friday to the anti-ragging committees of the institution and Saurashtra University that a resident doctor had tortured him emotionally while he was doing practicals.
During the holidays , the college's anti-ragging committee gathered to discuss the issue. Both students were brought to separate departments, where their testimonies were recorded.The witness statements were also recorded by the committee.

According to TOI report ,the college claims that this year's scarcity of resident doctors is a result of the admissions procedure's delays. As a result, the resident doctors who are now on campus are overworked with patients who come from the districts of Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Porbandar.Additionally, the institution has tasked senior resident doctors with keeping an eye on first-year students and making sure that they (first-year students) correctly attend to patients and thoroughly develop practical skills.
Dr. Nandini Desai, the Dean of the medical college, informed the TOI that, according to the student who lodged the complaint, he had frequently received scolding from seniors. Additionally, seniors had made un-favorable remarks on his papers. The senior resident student, who faced the allegations, explained that due to excessive workload, the first-year students were fatigued, making it challenging for some of them to complete their assigned tasks.
As a result of their excessive workload, the resident doctors occasionally had to be stern with first-year students, according to the dean. "But after work, they all would take dinner together," remarked the Desai.
