MBBS topper to get 15 medals among 40 others at KGMU's 18th convocation
Lucknow: Passing the exam with flying colours, an MBBS topper is in the lead by bagging 15 medals including 11 gold and two silver and the prestigious Hewett medals with 40 others who will be also honoured at the 18th convocation ceremony held by King George's Medical University (KGMU) on December 23.
The time has come for these medical students who struggled and worked hard to study in order to prove themselves will be finally paid off as they will be honoured for their dedicated hard work to achieve their goals in the field that is mainly known for its sacrifice towards the betterment of the people.
Mahavish Ahmad, the topper in her batch is the daughter of a Moradabad-based doctor and a housewife mother. Walking in the footsteps of her father, she dreamed of becoming a doctor and finally achieved it with honour.
Her next aim is to study radiology post-graduation as she wishes to continue in academics even later in life. Speaking about her experience, she said "I always dreamt of becoming a doctor and now that has happened with so many awards. It's too early to decide if I should join the government or private service. However, I am sure of pursuing diagnostics as a career."

Following the topper, Deepak Bansal of Meerut secured himself a second position in the rank and will be awarded six gold medals along with other recognitions. When asked about his future plans, he told HT "The medical field is all about innovation and dealing with the new situation every day. So, opting between government and private sectors is something I will decide later."
Nearly 41 students of MBBS, postgraduate and super-speciality courses will be conferred with medals and honours at the convocation. The awardees will be conferred with 75 medals – gold and silver –, book prizes and cash prizes.
Aditi Chandra (Dr RML Mehrotra Memorial award), Dr Devisha Agrawal (Pandit Govind Prasad Shukla award) and Gunjan Mehta (BDS topper) are among the five top students who will be awarded gold and silver medals.
Although the toppers will secure gold and silver medals, the remaining 36 postgraduate students who completed MD/MS and DM/Mch will be honoured with medals and cash prizes.
Meanwhile, the administration of the University held a press conference on Tuesday to inform the media about the upcoming coronation ceremony.
To carry forward with the ceremony, the university has decided to invite union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya as a chief guest who will honour the students with medals and cash prizes. However, a confirmation regarding this will be provided on Thursday from the Minister's office as to whether he will come as the chief guest or reject the request.
Governor Anandiben Patel and deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the medical education minister portfolio, will also grace the occasion.
While talking about the convocation, Lt Gen (retd) Prof Bipin Puri, vice chancellor, KGMU informed TOI that the convocation will be telecasted both at the university's website and the official youtube channel. "We are in touch with the union health ministry for consent from the minister to attend the event," he added.
