Mizoram Approves Plan for Neurosurgery Dept at Zoram Medical College
Mizoram- Mizoram health authorities recently approved the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed setting up of a neurosurgery department at the only Zoram Medical College (ZMC) in Falcon near Aizawl.
On December 2, a meeting of Mizoram health officials was held at Raj Bhavan, which was chaired by the state governor Hari Babu Kambhampati. In the meeting, the urgent need to establish a Department of Neurosurgery in ZMC to meet the health demands of the people of Mizoram was thoroughly discussed.
The meeting was attended by the State Health and Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii, Chief Minister's Advisor (Finance and Planning) TBC Lalvenchunga, ZMC Director Dr John Zomingthanga and neurosurgeon Dr Aaron M Pillai of Silverline Hospital, Kochi.
As per the TOI news report, the Governor emphasised the importance of creating a systematic approach to effectively utilise Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. He highlighted the need to reach out to various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) to seek their support through their CSR contributions in the areas of education, healthcare and others.
Further, the Governor also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the PSUs Undertakings to liberally allocate their CSR funds for the benefit of the North Eastern States and stressed the need to develop efficient methods for mobilizing these funds. This, he said, is an important step to ensure proper utilization and development.
Along with this, Lalrinpuii said efforts are being made to improve healthcare services in the state, mentioning the ongoing initiatives to establish a neurosurgery department at ZMC. She also highlighted the importance of further developing facilities such as the cardiothoracic vascular surgery OT unit, IVF centre and other essential units at the college.
Meanwhile, an official statement noted that there are no major hurdles in the initial phase and the necessary financial requirements and detailed project proposal have also been reviewed and approved.
The statement further said that it has also been decided to approach Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for CSR funding and a commitment has been expressed to actively pursue the proposal to get the necessary support, report TOI.
