NEIGRIHMS to offer 100 MBBS seats next year
Shillong: Bringing encouraging news for the state, NEIGRIHMS (North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences) is gearing up to offer 100 MBBS seats in the next academic session, a significant increase from the current 50.
NEIGRIHMS Director, Nalin Mehta, announced on Saturday that alongside the existing 100 seats for BSc Nursing, the institute will expand its MBBS capacity to 100 starting next year.
Mehta highlighted the benefit to Meghalaya from this expansion, particularly as Mizoram is downsizing its seats following the establishment of its own medical institution, while Meghalaya is experiencing growth in its medical component.
The esteemed institute, which recently saw doctors leaving for AIIMS Guwahati and other medical institutions, is actively addressing the vacant positions through a series of recruitment interviews.
presently, aspiring MBBS students from Meghalaya rely on the central/state quota or NEIGRIHMS to pursue their degrees. Despite Meghalaya's existence for over 50 years, the state is still exploring avenues to establish a medical college, while most other Northeastern states have already set up their own medical institutions.
