NHL Medical College 2nd-Year MBBS Student Commits Suicide

Ahmedabad- In an unfortunate incident, a second-year MBBS student committed suicide in her hostel room in the Ellisbridge area on Friday night, sending shockwaves across the campus. The student hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her hostel room with a dupatta.
The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Susheela Vasava, who took the tragic step when her roommate went out and found herself alone in the room. Susheela was pursuing her MBBS degree from Shrimati NHL Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad.
After the matter came to light, the incident was immediately reported to the Ellisbridge police. Following this, the police started investigating the case, however, no suicide note was recovered from the room.
Inspector KM Bhuva of Ellisbridge police station said, "Her body was found late Friday night when her roommate returned and found the door locked from inside. She informed the hostel staff, who called the police control room. They also informed Vasava's relatives about the tragedy over the phone. The door was forced open, and the student's body was found hanging from the ceiling."
The deceased, Susheela, was a resident of Bayad in Ahmedabad and lived in room number 424 of the girls' hostel. College officials have confirmed that she was admitted under the government quota (free ship card) in the 2023-24 academic year. Meanwhile, the institute confirmed that the deceased had earlier failed the MBBS exam but later cleared it. She had recently appeared for the second-year internal exam and was awaiting the result.
Along with this, the college authorities said in a formal statement that Vasava has been assigned a mentor from among the teaching staff as per the National Medical Commission (NMC) norms under the mentor-mentee program. They said that Vasava had met her mentor in Dec and Feb. "No issues or concerns were recorded during either interaction," the college noted, reports TOI.
