NMC derecognises Mediciti medical college Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Despite the National Medical Commission derecognizing around 40 medical colleges and 100 already being in scanner, the apex medical body has revoked the recognition of Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences in Ghanpur, cancelling admissions to the MBBS course for the 2023-24 academic year.
The decision to revoke the license of the medical college came into action after the NMC found several deficiencies during an inspection at the institute's infrastructure, ratio of professors to students, number of patients and facilities like laboratories etc.
In its cancellation order, the National Medical Commission (NMC) states that admissions to the MBBS course at Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences have been canceled for the academic year 2023-24. The decision was taken due to irregularities found by the MCI.

MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences is established at Ghanpur, Medchal Mandal, Ranga Reddy Dist of Telangana by Share Medical Care (NGO), during 2001-2002 over an area of 40 acres in the MediCiti Campus of 200 acres. MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) was started during the year 2002-2003 with annual intake of 100 students.
The college, affiliated to the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) in Warangal, is run by the Share Medical Care Trust, which is chaired by former BJP MP and ex-MoS Y. Sujana Chowdary.
Although it is reported that NMC had issued a notice to the institute before revoking the license, the college administration has denied the claims and stated that they were unaware of the derecognition since no official notice was served to the institute.
Dr B Karunakar Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) told TNIE, "We have not received any official letter regarding the cancellation, and there was still time for the last phase of counselling. Moreover, we learnt about the news through through the NMC website. However, it is possible for the college management to appeal to the NMC and seek permission for admissions."
Issuing a press release to clarify the situation, the institute stated it had applied for an increase in the number of seats for the 2023-24 academic year. However, the NMC conducted an inspection and identified certain shortcomings, leading to the rejection of the application.
Even though NMC cancels recognition of medical colleges due to certain violation to its mandated standards for imparting medical courses, the colleges can always appeal before the competent authorities for reconsideration. Therefore, the institute has informed that it would take necessary steps to rectify the shortcomings stated by the council and apply to get back the recognition again.
Presently, there are 750 MBBS students and 150 PG students enrolled in the college.
