NMC grants conditional renewal to Doon medical college 150 MBBS seats

Dehradun: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted conditional renewal to Doon Medical College for its 150 MBBS seats for the 2026-27 academic session, allowing the institution to continue admissions this year.
However, along with this relief, the NMC has issued a strict ultimatum to the college administration to rectify several deficiencies, including a significant faculty shortage, within 45 days.
According to the NMC, the college is currently facing nearly a 40% shortage of faculty members, including teaching staff and doctors, which falls short of the commission's prescribed norms. Adequate faculty strength is considered essential for maintaining the quality of medical education and clinical training.

In addition to the faculty shortage, the commission has asked the college to address deficiencies related to infrastructure, available resources, and clinical material within the time period.
After the deadline, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) will conduct another strict and surprise inspection of the college. The NMC has warned that if the deficiencies are not rectified during the follow-up inspection, the college's recognition could be at risk.
Confirming the conditional renewal, Principal Dr Geeta Jain told Live Hindustan the college administration has already started taking corrective measures. She stated that all Heads of Departments (HODs) have been directed to submit reports within 15 days detailing the shortcomings and requirements in their respective departments.
She further said that the college is in constant touch with the Directorate of Medical Education to fill the shortage of doctors and faculty as soon as possible, so that the crisis can be resolved within the stipulated time, ensuring that students’ studies are not affected.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported about a ragging allegation at Government Doon Medical College in Dehradun where an MBBS student has claimed that seniors forced him to shave his beard and get a haircut. The complaint was submitted anonymously, and the anti-ragging committee took the matter for investigation.
