NMC nod to 18 additional PG seats at Vasantrao Naik Govt medical college

Maharashtra: In a major boost to medical education in the state of Maharashtra, the Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College in Yavatmal has received approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for 18 additional postgraduate seats.
The institute currently has 67 PG seats, increasing the total number of seats to 85.
According to the officials, the newly approved PG seats include general medicine, dermatology and obstetrics and gynaecology, pathology, anesthesiology, and respiratory medicine. Of these, general medicine has received a total of four seats, dermatology and obstetrics and gynaecology three each, pathology four, anesthesiology four, and respiratory medicine three.
This achievement was made possible by the collective efforts of Dean Dr Anil Batra, PG Associate Dean Dr Anand Asiya, Department Heads, and other faculty and administrative staff, who worked tirelessly to obtain NMC approval. The college administration expressed hope that this expansion will not only benefit students aspiring to enter the medical field but will also improve the quality of healthcare in the region, according to TheLiveNagpur.
The introduction of these additional PG seats will allow the respective departments to expand their postgraduate programs, improving clinical training, patient care, and specialised healthcare services in the region. This development is a significant step toward strengthening medical education opportunities for students from Yavatmal and across Maharashtra who aspire to pursue advanced medical degrees.
Similarly, NMC had also approved 75 new PG seats in seven government medical colleges in Telangana for the academic year 2025-26. On this, Medical Dialogues had reported that the state's GMCs have a total of 1,191 PG seats. Therefore, with these additional seats, the number will increase to 1,266 seats. The seven GMCs where PG seats have been approved include Osmania Medical College, Nizamabad, Mahbubnagar, Siddipet, Suryapet, Nalgonda, and SIMS Ramagundam.
