NMC renews 33 PG medical, SS courses at Gandhi Medical College Secunderabad

Secunderabad: In a boost to medical education, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has renewed recognition for 33 postgraduate and super-speciality medical courses at Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad, for the 2026-27 academic session.
The renewal was approved by the Post-Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) after an inspection of the college by an NMC team. The renewed programmes include 17 MD, five MS, five M.Ch and six DM courses.
Among the MD programmes, General Medicine has 20 seats, followed by Anaesthesiology with 17 and Paediatrics with 15. Pathology, Microbiology and Dermatology have 10 seats each, while Radio Diagnosis has nine seats.
The remaining MD courses include Physiology and Forensic Medicine with eight seats each, Pharmacology and Biochemistry with seven each, Respiratory Medicine with five and Geriatrics with four seats.
Meanwhile, under the MS programmes, Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 25 seats, while General Surgery has 20, Orthopaedics 13, ENT 10 and Ophthalmology six seats.
At the super-speciality level, the college has five M.Ch programmes. Neurosurgery and Plastic Surgery have four seats each, Urology has two, while Paediatric Surgery and Thoracic/Cardiothoracic Surgery have one seat each.
The six DM programmes include Medical Gastroenterology with five seats, Nephrology with four, Cardiology and Critical Care Medicine with three seats each, and Endocrinology and Neurology with two seats each.
Deccan Chronicle has reported that the approval was based on the Annual Disclosure Report (ADR) 2025 submitted by the institution, which is affiliated with Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences.
The NMC, however, clarified that the actual number of seats will be as permitted by its Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB).
While the renewal is subject to the college continuing to meet the NMC's prescribed standards, the Apex Medical Commission has warned that any discrepancy or deficiency found later could lead to stoppage of the concerned courses under the provisions of the NMC Act, 2019.
