No New AIIMS Planned for Jhansi, NITI Aayog Panel to Propose Reforms AIIMS New Delhi Transformation: MoS Health

New Delhi- In the recently held Parliament Session, the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare informed that in order to transform All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi into a premier institution, the existing systems and processes of AIIMS are being thoroughly examined and significant improvements are being proposed.
On 21st March, a Parliament session was held where a series of questions were asked by several MP’s regarding the Niti Aayog's Panel on transforming AIIMS In the series of questions, MP sought to know the specific timeline set for the committee on NITI Aayog’s Panel on Transforming AIIMS to submit its final recommendations, whether any public grievance redressal system is likely to be introduced to address concerns arising from proposed transformations at AIIMS, and the specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that have been identified to evaluate AIIMS’ clinical, academy and research performance and whether the Government has any plans to set up new AIIMS-like institutions based on the transformed AIIMS, New Delhi model particularly in underserved regions like Bundelkhand, including Jhansi to enhance healthcare accessibility.
Replying to queries raised by MP, the State Minister Shri Prataprao Jadhav informed that a committee led by Dr. V K Paul, a member of NITI Aayog, has been formed to create a roadmap to transform AIIMS, New Delhi, into a premier institution for Medical Research and Practice. This Committee’s mandate involves thoroughly examining the existing systems and processes at AIIMS and proposing significant reforms.
The Terms of Reference of the Committee include identifying ways to streamline patient inflow, developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure optimal clinical, academic and research outcomes, enhancing governance and transparency and recommending strategies for financial prudence, sustainability and self-sufficiency in managing AIIMS, New Delhi.
Further, the Minister of State stated that under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), to date, 22 All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have been sanctioned in various States/UTs. However, in the current phase of PMSSY, there is no proposal to establish a new AIIMS in Jhansi.
