Patna medical college cancels MBBS internal exam over alleged malpractice
Patna: Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET UG 2026 examination, Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) has cancelled the first internal examination of MBBS 2022 batch students from its Medicine Department due to the possibility of large-scale malpractice during the exam.
The written examination was conducted for around 200 MBBS students of the 2022 batch, which took place on May 11, 2026, while the oral and practical examinations were held on May 12.
However, soon after the examinations ended, concerns were reportedly raised regarding the confidentiality of question papers and answer sheets. Following this, the college administration received input about possible malpractice during evaluation and other procedures.
Taking the matter seriously, the PMCH administration decided to cancel the entire examination process, including written, oral and practical exams with immediate effect.
As per News 18 Hindi media report, the order was reportedly issued by the Principal of PMCH and communicated to the Head of the Department of Medicine. The college is now preparing to conduct the examination again.
The matter is also expected to lead to disciplinary action against those found responsible. If any students and staff members are found to be involved in the malpractice may face strict action after investigation.
PMCH management has also officially notified the college's Medical Education Unit of further strict disciplinary action and a detailed investigation into the entire matter. This unit will now review the events that occurred during the exam and, based on the report, will recommend strict punitive action, such as suspension, against those involved.
The issue comes to light amid the alleged paper leak controversy around NEET 2026.
The NEET UG 2026 exam was conducted on May 3 by the National Testing Agency and was held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in pen-and-paper mode. Over 22.7 lakh aspirants appeared for the examination this year. It took place across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, covering over 5,400 centres.
However, the NTA on May 12, 2026, declared the cancellation of the examination held on May 3 and subsequently announced the re-examination on June 21, 2026.
The following decision triggered anxiety and anger among lakhs of medical aspirants across the country, many of whom said they were feeling shocked, stressed and uncertain about their future. While some aspirants supported the decision to cancel the examination in the interest of fairness, others said that they are being forced to suffer because of the actions of a few people.
