PGIMER Invites Applications For Director Post
PGIMER has invited applications for the post of Director for the next tenure, beginning from November 1st.
Chandigarh: The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, has issued a notice inviting candidates to apply for the post of Director.
All Vice-Chancellors of Indian Universities (including Medical Universities), Directors of Centers/ Institutions of Medical Education and Medical Research, Members of the Institute Body of PGIMER, Chandigarh and Principals of all Medical Colleges in India can apply for the post.
The current post is held by Prof Jagat Ram, who assumed Office of Director in March 2017 and is all set to retire by the end of October, this year. Prof Jagat Ram is an Ophthalmologist and has headed the Unit of Ophthalmology at PGIMER for the past 26 years. In 2015, he received the Oscar of Paediatric Ophthalmology at the World Congress of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus in Barcelona. He was conferred Padma Shri award by the President of India in January 2019. As of this year, he has completed 42 years at PGIMER.
PGIMER has invited candidates to fill in the shoes of Prof Jagat Ram with the following notice, "The post of Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh, is going to fall vacant on November 1, 2021. Accordingly, applications are invited from eligible candidates and nominations are invited from vice-chancellors of Indian universities (including medical universities), directors of centres/institutions of medical education and medical research, members of the Institute Body of PGIMER, Chandigarh, and principals of all medical colleges in India."
The last date for the receipt of applications is October 15th, 2021.
The institute caters to a large population, especially from the states of Punjab, J&K, Himachal Pradesh , Uttarakhand and Haryana. and is the second most prestigious medical university in India.
The recruitment rules for the post of Director as as follows:

A recognised Postgraduate qualification under broad head of Medical Sciences including its specialities. iii. The candidate must be registered with the State Medical Council/MCI * For PGI .Chandigarh as per amendment vide PGI Act Notification dated 15th June,1984 with the approval of GOI, on page 25 of PGI Act on page 32,under qualification for appointment: 'Age ,experience and other qualifications for appointment to a post shall be specified by the Institute keeping in view the qualifications and experience prescribed by the Central Government for similar posts before applications of candidates are called for subject to the condition that non-medical personnel shall not be appointed to the posts of Director and Medical Superintendent' Experience: a. Teaching and/ or research experience of not less than fourteen years. b. 25 years standing in the profession including 5 years as Professor. c. Extensive practical and administrative experience in the field of Medical care, Medical Research, Medical Education or Public Health Organisation and experience of running important scientific/ educational Institution either as its Head or as Head of the department or Head of Unit (qualifications relaxable at the discretion of the Government in case of candidate otherwise well qualified). There will be a probationary period of one year. At the time of completion of Directorship he/she can go back to the department as Professor till superannuation. Desirable: Administrative experience of over seven years in a responsible capacity. |
