Jaipur: A doctors' body has sought the intervention of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma following seven ragging complaints reported across seven medical colleges in the state between October 10 and 18, 2026.

The association has urged the state government to ensure independent investigations into the ragging complaints and fix accountability of the Deans and Principals wherever lapses are established.

United Doctors Front (UDF), in a press release, stated that the complaints allege intimidation, coercion, psychological harassment and humiliating activities targeting first-year MBBS students.

The institutions concerned are Government Medical College, Kota; Dr. S. N. Medical College, Jodhpur; Bhilwara Medical College; Government Medical College, Chittorgarh; Sardar Patel Medical College, Bikaner; ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Jaipur; and Pandit Naval Kishore Sharma Medical College, Dausa.

In the latest case at Pandit Naval Kishore Sharma Medical College, Dausa, a first-year MBBS student has alleged late-night harassment, coerced and sexually humiliating activities, confiscation of mobile phones during ragging and threats of social boycott and academic consequences after a complaint was filed. The student also reported serious psychological distress.

On October 18, the National Medical Commission (NMC) Anti-Ragging Cell sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) within 24 hours and directed the institution to take immediate protective measures and mental-health support, according to the press release.

With the latest complaint, the reported total has reached seven cases across seven institutions within nine days. The NMC Anti-Ragging Cell has sought point-wise explanations and ATRs from the concerned institutions.

UDF said the complaints raise concerns about the safety of medical students and the effectiveness of anti-ragging safeguards in the institutions.

Commenting on this, Dr. Lakshya Mittal, Chairperson, United Doctors Front (UDF), said, "Seven ragging complaints across seven medical colleges in Rajasthan in just nine days demand the urgent attention of the State Government. Ragging cannot be excused as a senior-junior introduction or college tradition. Deans and Principals must ensure safe, ragging-free campuses. Complaints must be investigated promptly, and every student must be protected from threats, humiliation and retaliation."

UDF has already submitted a formal representation to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan, the Directorate of Medical Education and the Director General of Police (DGP), Rajasthan, concerning the earlier six institutions. With the fresh Dausa complaint, UDF urged the authorities to extend their urgent review and intervention to all seven colleges.

The organisation has requested the Hon’ble Chief Minister to personally intervene and direct the concerned authorities to examine institutional lapses, hold responsible Deans, Principals or other officials accountable wherever failures are established, and ensure close monitoring and time-bound, impartial investigations.

In the press note, UDF demanded an independent and time-bound investigations into all seven complaints, review of institutional Anti-Ragging Committees, hostel supervision and surprise night-time inspections, preservation of CCTV footage, electronic communications and all relevant evidence, confidentiality and protection of complainants and witnesses against intimidation, social boycott and academic retaliation, immediate psychological support and safety arrangements for students reporting serious distress, accountability wherever negligence, suppression of complaints or other violations are established and institution-wise compliance reports and sustained preventive monitoring throughout Rajasthan.

"UDF emphasises that all allegations must be examined fairly and in accordance with due process. However, preventive safeguards and protection for students cannot wait for final inquiry findings," the press note added.

Dr. Mittal added, "Medical colleges must be places of learning and dignity, not fear. Zero tolerance for ragging must mean effective monitoring and accountability on the ground."

Dr. Rakesh Beniwal, National Joint Secretary, UDF, urged the Rajasthan Government to treat the complaints as a priority and ensure a safe, dignified and fear-free educational environment for every medical student.
