Rangaraya Medical College House Surgeon Sacked for Ragging MBBS Students
Kakinada: A house surgeon at Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, has been suspended for one year after being accused of ragging the second-year MBBS students at the institute.
The accused house surgeon allegedly entered the hostel of the second-year MBBS male students in an inebriated state and ragged them for four hours by hurling abuses at them, The Hindu has reported. Apart from being suspended for one year, the college authorities have also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the doctor.
The incident took place at midnight on November 8 and came to light on November 11 after the medical college authorities initiated action against the accused house surgeon, who is currently undergoing his one-year mandatory internship.

As per the latest media report by Sakshi.com, the accused broke into the male hostel of the medical college in an inebriated condition on Saturday midnight. Reportedly, he entered the hostel rooms at one o'clock in the night, woke up many second-year medicos, and forced 10 of the students into the corridor and ordered them to stand. The harassment reportedly went on for four hours.
Many of the affected students went to their parents on Sunday and complained to the college management throigh email. After the accused was identified, the matter was reported to the Anti-Ragging Committee.
Commenting on the issue, the Principal of the medical college and a member of the Anti-Ragging Committee Dr. Dav Sasi told The Hindu, "It has been confirmed that the house surgeon, identified as Jagadeesh, had entered the boys hostel around midnight of November 8 and hurled abuses against a group of second-year MBBS students. The act of ragging went on for four hours till the early hours."
"Mr. *** is not officially allowed into the boys hostel of the MBBS students. However, he entered into the boys hostel in a drunken state and ragged the students who later protested the act," added Dr. Sasi.
The Hindu has reported that before lodging a written complaint with the authorities, three victims reportedly protested against the incident. Meanwhile, confirming that the accused doctor has been suspended for one year, Dr. Sasi, the Principal added, "On Monday (November 11, 2024), we have suspended Mr. ***for one year and imposed a fine of ₹25,000 to be deposited into the account of the College Development Council. The situation is normal on the campus. The Anti-Ragging Committee did not recommend any legal action against the accused."
