Struggle in filing MBBS seats, 32 seats vacant at 5 Jharkhand Medical Colleges
Dhanbad: The aspirants for the State as well as All India Quota are seemingly hesitant to accept admissions in Jharkhand, leaving up to 32 places open in the five state-owned medical colleges.
With the exception of RIMS Ranchi, the government-run five medical colleges in Jharkhand have a total of 500 MBBS seats (100 seats each), of which 15% (75 seats) are set aside for candidates from all of India and two for central nominees.
However, just 43 applicants out of 75 were admission to the State's medical colleges on August 28 following the conclusion of the second round of all-India quota seat counselling.
Out of 15, the top 11 candidates under the all-India quota were admitted to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) in Dhanbad, while the worst six were admitted to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Hazaribagh.

SNMMCH admissions coordinator Only 4 seats remain open, according to Dr. Ganesh Kumar, at the conclusion of the second session.
According to a report in English Lagataar, the admissions coordinator at Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Palamu Dr Atul Prakash claimed that a total of 10 out of 15 applicants had accepted admission. In the clean-up round, he expressed hope that the final 5 seats would be filled.
Nine individuals applied for admission to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) in Jamshedpur using the all-India quota. Nine individuals applied for admission under the all-India quota, while the central nominee from Nagaland filled the remaining place, according to principal Dr. KN Singh.
Dr. Arun Kumar Choudhary, the principal of Phulo Jhano Medical College Dumka, stated that a total of 7 individuals applied for admission under the All-India quota, leaving 8 seats open. There were only six applicants at SBMCH Hazaribagh.
The state's director of medical education, Dr. SK Singh, disagreed with the notion that applicants are hesitant to enrol in Jharkhand's medical schools.
According to him, admission is granted based on rankings, with the highest-ranking candidates securing spots in RIMS before other institutions. Furthermore, he emphasized that in the previous year, almost all state seats, except for two reserved for handicapped individuals, were successfully filled. Hence, he contends that it would be inaccurate to claim that students lack interest in Jharkhand medical colleges.
According to the principal of a medical institution, initially, students shun admission because they prefer to upgrade, but eventually, all seats are filled. According to the principal, a candidate initially chooses RIMS, then MGMMCH, SNMMCH, SBMCH, PJMCH, and then MMCH because of faculty shortages.
