Telangana to Set up Medical College in Godavarikhani, classes to start from 2022-2023
Jagtial: The long-standing dream of the local people of Telangana's coal-belt town Godavarikhani is going to be fulfilled as the State Government has taken a decision to establish a medical college there.
The college, which will be operated by the joint partnership of the State Government and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), is likely to start classes from the academic year 2022-2023, adds Telangana Today.
Already, the SCCL management has released Rs 500 crore to set up the college building on the premises of the Godavarikhani degree college and the counselling process for admitting 150 MBBS students will commence from September 2022.
This comes after recently the State Government had submitted applications to NMC, the apex medical regulator for its nod to set up medical colleges in 8 places. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the State had sought NMC's nod for medical colleges in Jagtial, Mancherial, Mahabubabad, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Sangareddy, Kothagudem, and Ramagundam.

As per the latest media report by Telangana Today, apart from the medical college in Godavarikhani, an ICU facility and an 85-bed building are also being constructed in the Godavarikhani hospital premises.
Inspecting the ongoing work of construction, the College principal Himabindu recently asked the officials for completing one block of the college building by September, when the MBBS admission is likely to begin.
Initially, the college has a requirement of 50 faculty members and the recruitment process is also under progress. Already, 18 senior residence doctors, four professors, three assistant professors, and four senior professors have joined duties and in the coming days more faculty members are going to be hired, adds the daily.
While commenting on the matter, the Principal of the medical college, Himabindu told Telangana Today that already they have applied before the erstwhile Medical Council of India, now NMC for its inspection and waiting for the same.
In fact, a team from NMC is likely to visit the medical college in the coming month, she informed the daily.
Providing details regarding the intake capacity of the medical college, the Principal stated that they were trying to get NMC's nod for 150 MBBS seats and as per the rules, 50 to 55 faculty members are required for first-year MBBS course. Already 20 to 245 faculty members are working and more are expected to be recruited soon.
