Tripura govt mulling to establish Homeopathic Medical College
Agartala: Popularly known for its holistic method of treatment, Homeopathy for the first time is going to reach the people of Tripura in a more advanced version with the government considering the establishment of a Medical College for Homeopathy under the AYUSH services in the state soon.
With two medical colleges running in the state currently, Tripura does not have any Homeopathy Medical College according to the latest report of the Central Council of Indian Medicine. Therefore, the government are working hard to launch several top homeopathy medical colleges in the state.
Homeopathy (or homoeopathy) is a 200-year-old form of alternative medicine that claims to stimulate a healing response and strengthen the body’s ability to heal itself. Those who practice it claim that it is a holistic system of medicine based on the theory of treating ‘like with like’. It claims to stimulate the body’s own healing response to disease, using specially prepared, highly diluted preparations.

The announcement was made by Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha during a a state-level orientation of Ayush CHOs on Homeopathic Health Care for mothers and children at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala city on Thursday morning. He said that the state government is thinking to open a Homeopathy Medical College in the coming days.
The proposal regarding the setting up of a Homeopathy medical college was discussed during meeting with Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and the state's CM. Apart from this, the matter also reached the corridor of the Ayush Ministry.
This is one step taken by the state government in fulfilling the dream of having a Homeopathy Medical College even though the proposal is pending to be approved yet. Meanwhile, If the state establishes one, it will be an occasion for aspirants to celebrate it. In the absence of one in their home state, the aspirants are forced to get admission to another state's Homeopathy medical college.
Taking to twitter, Dr Saha said "Along with Allopathy & Ayurvedic treatment, Homeopathy is also effective for health safety of people including mother & child. Our govt is working with multi-faceted plans to expand the Homeopathy system."
While speaking with East Mojo, Dr Saha said “We have plans to set up a Homeopathic medical college here in Tripura as a lot of people in our state have faith in this medium of treatment. Whatever may be the discipline of medicine, the principal objective of the government is to make treatment accessible for all.”
He said the present government never blended the development of the state with politics, unlike the Left. “We never mix up politics with other things. When the Left was in power, politics was the principal driving force of everything. Even health professionals and doctors were also not spared from its narrow politics. Today, this culture has been uprooted from the state,” said Dr Saha.
Referring to India’s history, Dr. Saha said, “Once upon a time India was the centre of all kinds of education and research. Institutions like Nalanda and Takshashila were set up here and scholars from all across the world used to visit this country to acquire knowledge. On the other hand, today’s parents feel proud if their children are studying abroad. That glory needs to be restored again and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working in that direction.”
Homeopathy is a form of treatment founded by Samuel Hahnemann in the 18th century. According to the Society of Homeopaths, homeopathy is based on the theory of ‘treating like with like’ and an observation that symptoms of an illness are identical to those experienced by a healthy person treated for that illness. Homeopathic remedies are produced by diluting (watering down) an active substance that causes similar symptoms in the belief that this will reduce the likelihood of harm.
