Barabanki: Controversy erupted recently after an MBBS student of Mayo Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), Barabanki, alleged facing months of mental harassment, financial extortion, and illegal suspension by the medical college.

The Director General of Medical Education and Training, Uttar Pradesh (DGME, UP), set up an inquiry committee to examine the matter, and it also found the MIMS college to be "guilty", Careers 360 has reported.

Meanwhile, the semester exams of the medico are starting from October 4, and days before the commencement of the exam, the medico, in a social media post, claimed being "targeted" by the MIMS medical college administration after her father raised a complaint alleging that the institute was charging fees beyond the government-set cap.

"I, ***, is a MBBS Batch 23-24 a student of Mayo Institute of Medical Sciences located at Barabaki District in UP. College has collected fess beyond as prescribed by DGME Lucknow in September 2023 during admission process. My father raised the issue against the extra collection of fees on 12/09/23 in DGME Lucknow. .Inquiry wasordered and MIMS management was found guilty. Since then I have been targeted by the management. On 17 July 25, I reported against the warden about misbehave, theft case in girls hostel and worst food in mess to Dean. Resulting Dean and management rather than rectifying points mentioned in complaint made a conspiracy and suspended me on 04/08/25 from 07/08/25 to 13/08/25 to attend classes and to leave hostel," the social media posts by the medico mentioned.

"My father requested Dean on 28/07/25 to withdraw illegal suspension stating that attendance will be short. But he didn't agree then my father lodged a complaint to DM Barabanki and DGME Lucknow simultaneously. Inquiry was ordered and inquiry committee assembled on 08/09/25 in MIMS Barabanki and committee found that suspension was illegal and other facts too mentioned in complaint were factual and MIMS management Barabanki was found in fault," the medico further added.

She alleged that in the meantime, the eligibility list was declared on 27.09.2025, declaring her ineligible to appear in Pathology subject due to short attendance and due to illegal suspension. On 29.09.2025, the DGME issued orders based on the findings of the inquiry to permit her to appear in the examination to make up for the attendance that was lost due to the illegal suspension.

Along with the orders, the medico's father met the Dean on 30.09.2025. However, allegedly, the Dean did not given any decision regarding the matter. Urging the Chief Minister, Prime Minister and National Medical Commission (NMC) to intervene, the medico mentioned in her X post, "I am feeling anxious and worried due to the behaviour of Dean and MIMS management. My examinations are commencing from 04/10/2025. Matter has also been brought in notice of DM Barabanki. In view of the above, it is humbly requested to look into the matter and pass suitable orders so that I can be able to appear in examination commencing from 04/10/25. I shall be highly obliged to you. @anandibenpatel @myogiadityanath @myogioffic @PMOIndia @NMC_IND @MeUPGovt."

As per the latest media report by Careers 360, the inquiry committee set up by the DGME examined the statements of the complainant and his daughter, as well as the warden and the college administration and concluded in the report that the complaint was "entirely true" and MIMS was "fully responsible". The committee also directed the college to refund the additional fees, arrange extra classes to cover the topics she missed during suspension to compensate for the missed attendance during the suspension period, to ensure that her attendance met the NMC standards.

The committee added that the college violated the government order dated August 2, 2023 by charging more than the fixed fee structure for medical students.

"Despite this warning, a similar complaint has been received. Therefore, your actions constitute a clear disregard for the instructions issued by this office, which is unacceptable," the DGME report mentioned.
