MUHS PG Medical Exams postponed

MUHS has informed about this change in a recent notice dated 30.03.2021. This comes after the resident doctors made demands for a study leave for 45 days as they have been busy with the Covid-19 duties amidst the surge of new cases in the State. However, the resident doctors in their letter also requested the University not to postpone the exams by more than one month.

The controller of examinations of MUHS, Dr. Ajit Pathak informed the Times of India how the resident doctors, mostly busy with Covid-19 duties asked for this study leave.

However, the increasing numbers of new Covid-19 cases couldn't create a major impact on the final-year undergraduate health science examinations of the University.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that fearing the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases and being worried about the safety in such a situation, the Maharashtra MBBS students had written to Maharashtra University of Health Science (MUHS) and medical education minister Amit Deshmukh with a request to hold their upcoming examinations online.

However, the officials of MUHS decided to stick to the offline mode of examination. They mentioned the internet connectivity in the hilly areas as the reason for concern.

Dr. Pathak informed TOI that 95% of the 10,995 aspirants appeared for the theory examinations at the 165 centers spread across the state.

Mentioning that both the invigilators and examinees abided by the Covid-19 norms, Pathak added, "The examinations at the 165 centers were conducted without any hiccups."

The practical examinations also started on Tuesday and would be completed by April 20.

"Our next challenge is to declare the exam results as quickly as possible so that the MBBS students, who succeed in the exam, can start their mandatory one-year internship in different medical colleges. Although the deadline for declaring the results is May 30, we will try to declare it earlier," added Pathak.
