WBUHS Announces Mental Health Awareness Program For Suicide Prevention
West Bengal: The West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) has announced an initiative of starting Gate Keeper's training for Suicide Prevention in different medical colleges and other institutions under its purview. This program will be based on mental health awareness for suicide prevention.
As per WBUHS, there has been a rise in the number of suicides amongst the paramedical and medical students community. So the university has started this initiative in order to reduce suicide cases. The university feels that quick action is required in this matter so that students can be prevented from committing suicide.
The DY CMOH-II/ZLO/Nodal Officers/Program Officers and other relevant members of all DMHP teams in the state are requested to take part in the said Gate Keeper's training program as trainers as directed by the concerned Principles of the medical colleges. This program should be treated under Targeted Intervention (TI).
The expenditure for the training will be incurred from the activity head ''Targeted Intervention at community, schools, workplaces, urban slums (NMHP), Tally code –J.1.5 under District Mental Health Program (DMHP)''.
West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) is a Public medical university in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was established in 2003 by an Act of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly for better management of the health and medical education-related courses. The main aim of establishing the university is to upgrade the level of medical teaching in the state.
Before the establishment of the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS), undergraduate and postgraduate level medical teaching in different state medical colleges of West Bengal was supervised by various state universities. This caused lots of differences hence the university was formed.
