MGM Indore gets NMC Approval for 2 DM Cardiology Seats

Indore: Bringing good news to the Postgraduate medical aspirants in Madhya Pradesh, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its nod for two DM Cardiology seats in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGMMC). The Department of Cardiology has been set up by the college administration in the Super Specialty Hospital of the Medical College, adds FPJ.

Already the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the apex medical commission has issued a letter of intent to the Dean of the medical college for permitting admission on two seats from the session 2023-2024.

Formerly known as King Edward Medical School, MGM Medical College, Indore is one of the oldest medical colleges in India. The college has been offering MBBS courses since 1948 and consequently PG medical courses were introduced in the medical college back in 1953. Currently, the medical college offers undergraduate medical education in around 250 MBBS seats.

In the last two years, around 125 PG medical seats were added to the college in several departments including obstetrics and gynaecology, pathology, general medicine, and anatomy.

As per the latest media report by Free Press Journal, NMC has now given its nod for two DM Cardiology seats in the medical college. Speaking about his, the Dean of the institute Dr Sanjay Dixit told the daily, “We have received a letter of intent from the NMC based on the report submitted by the assessor, who inspected the college, a few days ago. The apex regulatory body has asked us to submit the required documents including the details of the faculty members, staff, and equipment along with other details.”

He further mentioned that the college will submit the required documents to NMC at the earliest and after this, the Commission would issue a letter of permission to them.

“We have already completed recruitments and other requirements for the same. Our Super Speciality Hospital has become the first government Super Speciality in the state to get the permission for the same,” Dr Dixit further mentioned.

He added that the approval from NMC will pave the way for the college-run hospitals for getting new DM and MCH courses. Dr Dixit also congratulated the in-charge of the hospital and the nodal officer Dr AD Bhatnagar and the superintendent Dr Sumit Shukla for getting NMC approval for the super-specialty seats, adds the Times of India.

FPJ adds that the college administration is also expecting an increase in PG seats since already inspection for increasing PG medical seats in PSM, surgery, and orthopaedic departments have taken place. Inspection for the pathology, general medicine, psychiatry and the chest departments is still due.
