MSc nuclear medicine course on halt: Panjab University to move PGI Chandigarh to extend interim relief
Chandigarh: In an attempt to allow fresh admissions in the MSc nuclear medicine course, the Admission facilitation committee of Panjab University (PU) has recommended the University on Monday to request PGIMER for an extension of the interim relief.
Such a recommendation has come from the Committee amid the ongoing controversy regarding the Centre for nuclear Medicine.
As per the latest media report by Hindustan Times, the issue started last week when a team of PU teachers, along with security staff went to the Centre for Nuclear Medicine on the Sector-25 campus and tried to take possession of the space.
Referring to an earlier recommendation of a sub-committee, the University had ordered to shift the Centre to the Centre for Medical Physics, south campus, by May 31.
Following this, the University on July 1 had fired the chairperson of the Centre, Vijayta Dani Chadha and reconstituted all the departmental committees of the Centre.
However, this was vehemently opposed by the Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA). In its general body meeting on Tuesday, the association decided to resume the admission in the MSc Nuclear Medicine course on an immediate basis.
Apart from this, the teachers belonging to the association also took a firm stand that the University restores all the departmental committees, which had been reconstituted by the University. It had also demanded to reinstate the former head of the Centre.
Besides, the teachers also expressed their demands seeking revised pay scales and compliance with the UGC guidelines on the pay scales and retirement age.
Amid all these, the admission facilitation committee of the University has recommended to request the PGIMER for an extension of the interim relief, for commencing the admission in the MSc nuclear medicine course this year.
