NBE introduces answer booklet barcode entry in hybrid exams

New Delhi: Through an official notice, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has informed regarding the introduction of the barcode entry requirement for candidates appearing in NBEMS hybrid-mode examinations, starting with the DNB Final Theory Examination for the December 2025.
DNB Final Theory Examinations December 2025 is being conducted by NBEMS on a hybrid platform across the country on 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st December 2025. Therefore, according to the notice, in hybrid mode, whereas the question papers are displayed on a computer screen, the answers are to be written in a barcoded answer booklet provided.
Also, NBEMS has clarified that from the DNB Final Examination December 2025 onwards, candidates appearing in NBEMS examinations administered in hybrid mode shall be required to enter the barcode of the answer booklet provided to them in the computer console before starting the examination.
To help candidates familiarise themselves with the new procedure, NBEMS has also made a mock test available that demonstrates the barcode entry process and related instructions.
Meanwhile, before filling in the Barcode, candidates must check the following points-
1 There are 50 pages in the answer booklet, numbered from 1 to 50. These are exclusive of the covering jacket of the answer booklet. Pages for answering questions are earmarked (5 pages are provided to answer each question).
2 Each page of the answer booklet has the same barcode printed on the top centre portion of the answer sheet. There are no mismatched barcode numbers in your answer booklet.
3 There are no torn, stained, damaged, blank (without ruled lines), misprinted/ incompletely printed, additional or missing pages in the answer booklet.
It is to be noted that once the barcode number of the answer booklet provided is filled and submitted, the answer booklet cannot be changed under any circumstances. Mismatch/ entering an incorrect barcode will lead to rejection of the answer booklet for evaluation and NBEMS will not be liable for the same. The result of such candidates shall be cancelled.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOW TO ENTER ANSWER BOOKLET BARCODE
Enter the barcode number as mentioned on the top of the answer booklet provided to you. Before entering the barcode, please ensure that the answer booklet provided to you has 50 pages to answer the questions, no misprints, torn or missing pages and a barcode printed on all of the pages of the booklet.
1 Enter the barcode correctly in the space using the virtual numpad provided below.
2 Wrong entry of the barcode shall result in non-assessment of the answer sheet.
3 You shall be provided 2 minutes of time for entering the barcode.
4 After entering the barcode, click the save button. The submit button shall be enabled only after the time of 2 minutes have passed for this group has passed. You can not click the submit button unless you have saved the barcode entered.
5 Question paper shall not be visible until you have entered the barcode, clicked on the save button, and followed by the submit button.
6 If you have not entered or submitted the barcode even after 2 minutes, you will start losing the exam time.
