NEET PG 2022: ABVP says Health Minister ready to postpone exam, NMC opposing
New Delhi: While the aspirants of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) examination 2022 are left with less than two days to appear in the test on May 21, recently the delegations of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) met the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in order to request him to consider deferring the exam.
Meanwhile, offering hope to the aspirants in favour of postponement, the National General Secretary of ABVP, Nidhi Tripathi has confirmed on Twitter that even though the Health Ministry is ready to defer the exams, it is the National Medical Commission (NMC) which is opposing such demands.
However, in another Tweet, the ABVP General Secretary mentioned, "Due to the constant pressure of ABVP, NMC is thinking of coming forward with a new alternative, the pressure is continuing."
"The delegation of ABVP again met the Hon'ble Health Minister regarding the issue of extension of the dates of NEET PG going on in the country for the last few days. In a meeting with the Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya and the officials of the Health Department, a meaningful discussion on 6 important points to extend the exam date was held. After this extensive discussion, a direction to the discussion is expected to give relief to the candidates," ABVP mentioned in its recent release.

Medical Dialogues had been reporting about the continuous demands of aspirants demanding to postpone the exam to July. The reason for such demands were mainly the factor that there was not sufficient time gap between the NEET PG 2021 counselling dates and the NEET PG 2022 schedule.
Earlier, several medical organizations came forward to support the students including FAIMA and the All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA). In fact, some of the aspirants reached the Supreme Court as well praying for the intervention of the Court in this matter. However, disappointing the candidates, the top court had recently dismissed the pleas and clarified that deferment will cause hardships to the thousands of those MBBS doctors who have been preparing for the exam
Although the Apex Court said no to the aspirants demanding deferment of the exam, even 48 hours before the exam, NEET PG 2022 is trending on Twitter. The aspirants are using hashtags including #postponeneetpg2022 and #neetpg2022 to express their hope that something might happen even at the eleventh hour.
However, one group of students are blaming their lack of preparation on the whole movement demanding deferment of the exam.
Meanwhile, adding to the list of reasons for postponing the exam, the aspirants in Assam have referred to the flood condition in the State, where the authorities have advised the public not to step out of their homes until & unless absolutely essential.
Even though the authorities offered no positive response to the aspirants, now the ABVP has also come forward to support the students and the delegations of the association met the Union Health Minister yesterday to discuss the matter.
"Last week, Hon'ble Supreme Court not interfering in the matter had left the decision t extend the exam date to the Central Government. The problem of the students was also placed before the Union Health Minister through a memorandum by the delegation of ABVP which also demanded permission to fill the form by reopening the link for a day for the students whose allotted seats were cancelled," ABVP mentioned in its release.
While commenting on the matter, leading the delegation National Convener of MeDe Vision Dr. Virendra Solanki said, "We are constantly striving to fulfil the demands of the students. We are in touch with thousands of students across the country whose views we have presented to the Health Ministry. It is expected that as soon as possible a student-friendly solution will be found."
National General Secretary of ABVP, Nidhi Tripathi added, "Out delegation mainly put forward six important points in front of the Hon'ble Union Minister. The officials acknowledged it to be a major issue that needs to be focussed on. So, we are positive that these points will pave the way for the decision and the students will get relief."
