NEET SS Counselling 2025 expected to commence from June 1 2026, says doctors' body
New Delhi: After nearly two months of waiting and uncertainty, around 7,000 aspirants across the country are likely to get relief as the NEET SS Counselling 2025 is expected to commence shortly.
Confirming the development, Dr Mohammad Momin Khan from the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) told Medical Dialogues that the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is expected to commence from Monday i.e June 1, 2026, following official discussions between the FAIMA delegation and concerned authorities.
This came after FAIMA on May 28 submitted an urgent representation to the Chairman of MCC regarding the indefinite delay in NEET-SS 2025 Counselling and the resulting socio-economic crisis for Super-Speciality aspirants.
The association, on behalf of the thousands of highly qualified Super-Speciality aspirants across the country, highlighted the dire situation due to the unprecedented delay in the NEET-SS admission process.
As per the MCC’s own academic calendar, the session for Super-Speciality courses was slated to commence on April 10th, 2026. However, FAIMA said that they are now at the end of May 2026, and the counselling process remains in a state of absolute paralysis.

In April 2026, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) extended the choice filling process for Round 2 of NEET SS Counselling 2025 until further notice, citing an ongoing legal matter in the Supreme Court of India. MCC took this decision in light of the case Tamilvani & Ors. vs State of Tamil Nadu, which concerns the reversion of in-service seats from Tamil Nadu to the All India Quota pool, prompting authorities to delay the counselling schedule. As a result, the counselling process for superspeciality medical admissions has come to a standstill.
The results for the NEET-SS examination were announced in January 2026, 1st round of counselling by MCC has been completed, and a few students have joined their allotted institute. But due to the delay in the 2nd round of counselling, the majority of the candidates having applied for upgradation of their seats can not join the prior allotted institute.
The association pointed out that thousands of DM/MCh aspirants have resigned from their previous posts as Senior Residents or Assistant Professors in anticipation of the April session and now remain unemployed for months, not by choice, but due to a failure in the administrative machinery.
"These doctors, often the primary breadwinners for their families, are facing acute financial distress. The prolonged uncertainty is taking a massive toll on their mental well-being, leading to widespread burnout and frustration. The missing 2025-26 batch is creating a vacuum in tertiary healthcare centers, increasing the workload on existing staff and severely compromising patient care. This systemic failure is creating a sense of deep-seated resentment among the medical fraternity. Highly qualified specialists are being treated as disposable, with no regard for their time, financial liabilities, or professional growth," the association said in the representation.
Following a discussion with the authorities, the association said that the counselling is going to take place soon and is expected to commence from Monday.
Dr D Srinath, FAIMA National President, said: "After 2 months of waiting, continuous efforts from FAIMA have finally led NEET SS 2025 counselling to resume shortly."
