NMC gives nod for 150 MBBS seats at GMC Nagarkurnool
Hyderabad: Giving the medical aspirants in Andhra Pradesh a reason to celebrate, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its permission for a new government medical college in Nagarkurnool district.
This new GMC Nagarkurnool has received the Apex medical education regulatory body's nod for 150 MBBS seats from the current academic year and it will be affiliated with the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS).
The nod from the Commission came after the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC examined the Assessor's reports and remarks of UG expert groups regarding the infrastructure and facilities available at the college including its laboratories, hostels, and availability of faculty.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Minister T Harish Rao recently announced that eight Telangana based medical colleges would begin their admission process by the academic year 2022-2023.
Those eight medical colleges were in Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Wanaparthy, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jagtial, Nagarkurnool and Ramagundam.

Recently, NMC gave its nod for the medical college at Jagtial, which is set to commence its MBBS admission from this academic year i.e. 2022-2023.
As per the latest media report by The New Indian Express, now the top medical body has given permission for 150 MBBS seats at GMC Nagarkurnool from the current academic year.
However, the college would not be permitted to start admitting students until MARB gives its formal permission in this regard. Meanwhile, the Commission has directed the State Government for providing all kinds of required facilities including availability of teaching and non-teaching staff, building, necessary equipment, and hospital facilities while complying with the NMC norms.
As per the information provided by the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya before the Parliament, there are a total number of 34 medical colleges in Telangana with an intake capacity for 5040 MBBS seats. Among these, there are a total number of 11 government medical colleges with an intake capacity of 1840 MBBS seats and 23 private medical colleges with an intake capacity for 3200 MBBS seats.
