NMC Invites Applications for Eligibility Certificate for FMGE, details
New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has invited applications for Eligibility Certificates, which are mandatory for foreign medical graduates to appear in the screening test i.e. Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE).
As per the EMRB notice dated 04.03.2024, the online submission of the application has started from today i.e. 5th March, 2024 onwards (09:00 AM onwards). The last date for submission of the application is 30th April, 2024, till 06:00 PM.
The candidates requiring the Eligibility Certificate have been requested to apply through the NMC website within 30.04.2024.
Mentioning that the FMGE Screening Test is tentatively scheduled to be conducted in June 2024 by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), NMC further clarified that "As per the requirements, the candidates who are required to have the eligibility certificate are not permitted to apply for the Screening Test without the Eligibility Certificate issued by the National Medical Commission."
"The requirement of the Eligibility Certificate may be confirmed by referring to the public notice dated 11.12.2018, 05.04.2019 & 22.11.2023 from the NMC website," NMC mentioned in the notice, issued by EMRB member Dr. Vijaya Lakshmi Nag.
"All such candidates who intend to correspond regarding their applications are requested to provide a reference of their file Tracking No." it added.
NMC has also issued an advisory regarding the eligibility certificate for the FMGs. Referring to the mistakes by the candidates while applying for Eligibility Certificates, the Ethics Board of NMC mentioned in the Advisory, "It has also been observed on previous occasions that various mistakes are made by the candidates while applying for the Eligibility Certificate (EC)."
The Commission suggested the following measures to avoid mistakes:
(i) The applications should preferably be filled by the candidate himself and should ideally avoid proxy for making applications for EC:
(ii) The candidates are also advised to keep their documents handy before filling application for EC; it would be ideal if the entries to be made are verified vis-a-vis entries in the original documents;
(iii) The candidates should provide their active mobile numbers so that alerts/deficiencies can reach them directly for rectification to obviate any delay in rectification. It may also be ensured that once the deficiency is conveyed only the deficiency should be rectified by the respective candidate as expeditiously as possible to avoid last minute rush; and
(iv) Candidates shall scrupulously check entries and ensure conformity with the details in the original documents to ensure quick processing/approval of applications if otherwise eligible.
"The above-mentioned steps are only suggestive and not exhaustive. Candidates are requested to exercise due diligence before submitting applications for Eligibility Certificates and ensure the mobile numbers indicated remain active," the Commission clarified.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that despite completing all the required procedures in this regard, several candidates were facing problems in obtaining the mandatory eligibility certificate from the Apex Medical Commission. Even the FMGs who applied in 2021, 2022, and earlier months of 2023 were facing the problem.
Their applications were pending at some level and they were not getting the certificates. Therefore, they were missing their chances to appear in the FMGE test.
Previously, the Union Minister of State for Health, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar addressed the issue of FMGs and informed the Lok Sabha that the delay in issuing eligibility certificates to the FMGs occurs due to delay in the validation of documents submitted by the candidates, verification of admission letter from the foreign medical institutions.
