NMC nod to 100 MBBS Seats at Churachandpur Medical College, Classes to commence from October
Manipur: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Manipur, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently given its nod for 100 MBBS seats at Churachandpur Government Medical College.
The confirmation regarding this came from the Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who shared the copy of the Letter of Permission (LoP) issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the Apex medical commission on Facebook.
Writing to the head of the college, the NMC board mentioned in the LoP issued on August 23, 2022, "I am directed to refer your application for starting of new medical college Government Medical College, Churachandpur in the state of Manipur under Manipur University with annual intake of 100 MBBS seats u/s 26(1)(a)(b) and 28(1)(2) of the NMC Act, 2019 for the academic year 2022-2023."
Sharing the good news, the Chief Minister stated, "In yet another great news for the state, I have just received the Letter of Permission for 100 MBBS Seats for Churachandpur Medical College. With this permission being granted, we can start the admissions process."
"This is how our Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi Ji shows his love and affection for the people of Manipur. It was only a few weeks ago that we have received the Letter of Intent and after fulfilling the formalities, the permission has been granted today. Under PM Modi Ji's leadership, development cannot take a back seat, come what may," he further added.
Meanwhile, recently the State Health Minister Sapam Ranjan has confirmed that the college will soon be inaugurated by the Chief Minister and the new batch shall commence its classes from October, 2022.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh had while laying the foundation stone for the construction of College of Nursing at Churachandpur district had also mentioned that the GMC Churachandpur would commence its first session with an intake capacity of 100 seats.
Now, the Apex medical education regulatory body, NMC has issued the Letter of Permission for 100 MBBS seats at the medical college and the copy of the LoP was recently shared by the Chief Minister himself.
As per the latest media report by Imphal Free Press, recently the Health Minister Sapam Ranjan inspected the GMC on Sunday with a team including the Churachandpur AC MLA LM Khaute; Vualnam; Director of Health and family welfare Dr Sashi Kumar; Director of Churachandpur Medical College Dr (Prof) S Iboyaima Singh; DC of Churachandpur Sharath Chandra Arroju and people from the construction company.
The team inspected all the rooms of the new college including the dissection hall, clinical physiology lab, haematology lab, histology practical hall, seminar cum library hall, anatomy museum, professor room, classrooms, etc.
While communicating with the media, the Health Minister confirmed that the medical college will soon be inaugurated by the Chief Minister and the classes will commence from October 2022. He said, "This is the first medical college of the state which is established in the hill districts of Manipur and this visit also relates with the arrangement for inauguration within a short period of time. It is now ready for inauguration."
A formal programme had also been organized on the occasion of inspection. During that programme, the Minister addressed all the stakeholders and stated that it was a challenge for all as the college would soon be inaugurated within a few days after the permission in this regard gets granted by concerned authorities.
Further addressing the doctors, especially the junior faculty members, the Minister asked them to do their best as professors will not be present every day and classes will commence from October. Mentioning that there might be shortcomings, he assured that all problems can be addressed with cooperation from everyone and working together only can ensure that the college is a success.
While commenting on the matter, MLA Khaute mentioned that the Churachandpur district was privileged for having a medical college which will be proved highly beneficial for the district as well as the State.
Meanwhile, the Additional CS (Health and Family Welfare) Vumlunmang Vualnam assured that the furniture for the classrooms will soon be arranged and the open counselling will also be initiated. He also asked the college administration for working hard so that the new GMC does not become the last choice for the medical aspirants in the State.
