NMC notifies on commencement of Super Speciality Academic Session 2022-23
New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has informed about the commencement of the Postgraduate Super Speciality courses for the Academic Session 2022-2023 from December 21, 2022.
The NMC board further informed in the notice dated 20.12.2022 about the commencement of broad speciality courses and mentioned that "The admitted students will have to complete 3 years duration of the course (2 years for Diploma course)."
While the PG Super Speciality classes are commencing today, as per the notification issued by the PG Medical Education Board, the classes for the PG Broad Speciality Courses for the academic session 2022-2023 initiated on October 20, 2022.
Informing about the schedule for commencing classes for PG medical and super-speciality medical courses, the Apex Medical Commission further referred to the disruption of the academic calendar in the last two years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Referring to this, the commission mentioned in the notice, "The Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations-2000, as amended from time to time, stipulates the date of starting of the academic session and duration of Post graduate courses. However, due to Covid-19 situation during the last two years, the academic sessions were not scheduled as per the PGMER."
"For the Academic Session 2022-23, the Post Graduate Broad Speciality courses have already commenced since 20.10.2022. The Post Graduate Super Speciality Courses for the Academic Session 2022-23 shall commence from 21.12.2022," read the notice issued by President of PGMEB, Dr. Vjay Oza.

Recently, the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Parliament that altogether 744 MBBS and 9783 Postgraduate (PG) seats remained vacant in the last three years.
While the PG medical seats are only limited in number, the data shared by the Health Minister revealed that a huge number of 9783 PG medical seats remained vacant in the last three years.
For the academic year 2019-2020, the vacant PG medical seats were highest in number. Back then, altogether 4614 PG medical seats did not find any taker. In the next two academic years i.e. 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, altogether 1425 and 3744 PG medical seats remained vacant respectively, revealed the data.
