NMC says No to increasing MBBS seats, AMU asks JN Medical College to submit complete data
Aligarh: While the National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently denied increasing the undergraduate medical (MBBS) seats at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), the University has claimed that the data collected by NMC had several discrepancies.
In this regard, already AMU directed a team of JNMC to visit the Apex medical commission's office and provide the complete data for rectifying the alleged discrepancies.
This has been confirmed by the Dean of the medical college as well, who clarified to NDTV that there were miscalculations because of the incomplete data collected by the Commission's team.
Apart from this, it has also been claimed that some faculty members were on leave because of Eid and this resulted in the shortage of faculties.
This comes after NMC had given its permission to the University for increasing the MBBS seats from 150 to 200. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the final approval from NMC was pending and it was decided that the final nod would be given to the University after a team of the apex medical body visits the college for inspection.

However, after inspecting the college, the NMC team denied giving its permission on July 8 and referred to several discrepancies as the reason for disproval.
While commenting on the matter, the Dean of JNMC Prof Rakesh Bhargava told NDTV, "since the proposal pertaining to the enhancement of MBBS seats from 150 to 200 at JNMC was disapproved by NMC on July 8, 2022, a day before the Eid festival; the discrepancies mentioned in the letter seem to be an outcome of the miscalculations done on the basis of the incomplete data collected by the assessors of the NMC related to bed occupancy, pathological and radiology investigations, OT Surgeries, OBG deliveries, etc."
"Besides this, some faculty members were on leave due to Eid and Friday that has been considered as paucity of teachers by the NMC. Moreover, the data mentioned in the letter of the NMC team is only of a couple of hours and not the whole day of July 8, 2022 (Friday)", he added.
