NMC seat matrix 2026-27: 1,419 MD, MS, DM, MCh seats in Odisha, 135 each in MD Medicine, MS Surgery

Bhubaneswar: In its recently released seat matrix, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has listed a total of 1,419 postgraduate and super-specialty medical seats in Odisha for the academic year 2026-27.
Among the listed courses for Odisha, M.S. General Surgery and M.D. General Medicine have the highest number of seats, with 135 seats each, followed by M.D. Anaesthesiology has 112 seats.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the NMC released a seat matrix showing a total of 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM and MCh medical seats for the academic year 2026-27. However, the Apex Medical Commission has clarified that the seat matrix does not include seats related to applications received for an increase in the intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the academic year 2026-27.
In a detailed course-wise breakdown of the seats, M.S. Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 98 seats, M.D. Paediatrics has 96 seats, M.D. Pathology has 60 seats; M.D. Radio-Diagnosis/Radiology has 56 seats, M.D. Community Medicine/Social & Preventive Medicine has 49 seats, M.D. Microbiology has 42 seats; M.D. Respiratory Medicine/Tuberculosis & Respiratory Diseases has 41 seats, M.D. Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy/Dermatology has 38 seats, M.D. Psychiatry has 35 seats; M.D. Physiology has 34, M.D. Pharmacology has 31, M.D. Anatomy has 29, and M.D. Biochemistry has 26 seats.
Other MD courses include 20 seats in M.D. Forensic Medicine and Toxicology/Forensic Medicine, 13 seats in M.D. Immuno Haematology and Blood Transfusion, 6 seats each in M.D. Emergency Medicine and M.D. Radiation Oncology/Radiotherapy, and 2 seats each in M.D. Hepatology and M.D. Pulmonary Medicine.
Among the MS courses, M.S. General Surgery has 135 seats, M.S. Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 98 seats, M.S. Orthopaedics has 81, M.S. Ophthalmology has 53, and M.S. Otorhinolaryngology/ENT has 33 seats.
The DM super-specialty courses include 21 seats in DM Cardiology, 15 in DM Medical Gastroenterology, 14 each in DM Endocrinology and DM Neurology, and 13 in DM Nephrology. DM Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology has 10 seats, while DM Critical Care Medicine has 9. DM Medical Oncology and DM Neonatology have 7 seats each. DM Clinical Haematology and DM Hepatology have 2 seats each, while DM Pulmonary Medicine also has 2 seats.
Meanwhile, MCh Urology has 18 seats. MCh Neurosurgery and MCh Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery have 14 seats each; MCh Surgical Oncology has 11, and MCh Paediatric Surgery has 10 seats. MCh Surgical Gastroenterology has 5 seats, while MCh Gynaecological Oncology has 2 seats.
