No more rounds of NEET SS Counselling 2022: MCC
New Delhi: In a major update, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced that there will be no further rounds of NEET SS Counselling 2022.
Thus, all rounds of Super Speciality (DM/ MCh/ DNB SS) admissions for the academic session 2022-23 are over and the unallotted candidates will be getting their refund soon.
The notification issued to this effect by the MCC reads:
“As informed by NMC and MoHFW, all the rounds of Super Specialty (D.M/ M.Ch/ DNB SS) counselling for the Academic Session 2022-23 is over and there will be no further round of NEET-SS counseling for D.M/ M.Ch/ DNB SS Seats. Hence, it is to inform all candidates who have participated in Super Specialty (D.M/ M.Ch/ DNB SS) for this Academic Session 2022-23 that the refund process of all eligible candidates will start shortly.”
This decision immediately invited negative reactions from the aspirants and medical organisations as earlier pointing out that more than 900 super-speciality seats were lying vacant even after the NEET SS Mop-up round, the doctors under the umbrella of the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) urged the MCC to conduct another mop-up round for filling up the vacant seats.
Writing to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), FORDA had pointed out that NEET SS seats are a national asset and should not go vacant. With this, the association urged the DGHS to conduct another mop-up round "in the larger interest of students and citizens who stand to benefit immensely from having more super-specialty doctors in the country."
Speaking to Medical Dialogues in this regard, the General Secretary of FORDA, Dr. Sarvesh Pandey had previously said, "Some students approached the Supreme Court and sought permission for leaving seats. After the Supreme Court agreed to their prayers, now more students have filed such pleas seeking similar relief."
"The Supreme Court had also said that such seats should be added to the mop up round. In India, the super specialist doctor to patient ratio is 1: 4000. So we want that these seats get filled up and they do not get wasted," he further added.
Initially, there were about 1,500 vacant seats, to fill which a mop-up round was urged for. However, even after this, about 900 seats still remained vacant. Most of these seats belong to private institutes and there are some government seats as well.
Sharing its sentiment on the MCC’s decision, FORDA, in its official tweet, stated, “MCC notice stating no more rounds for NEET SS 2022-23 session. A very sad decision as many DM/McH seats have gone vacant. Tremendous loss for the country’s healthcare. No care for the #rights of doctors. Apathy everywhere. These seats were national assets acc to Hon’ble SC of India.”

Another Twitter user commented on the NEET SS exam pattern.
@NMC_IND your reason for changing the pattern of NEET SS bcoz many seats are left vacant. But still 100’s of ss seats are left vacant. You also downgraded the pattern of the paper. Try to revert back to old pattern & do one more round of mop up @FordaIndia #NEETSS pic.twitter.com/aMSegAxQS8
