New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW) has informed about the conduction of a Training Course on Building Nursing & Midwifery Leadership for Achieving UHC, SDG from 22-24 December, 2021.

The National Institute of Health and Family Welfare is a premier autonomous Institute, funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It has kept pace with the new thinking and substantially contributed to the health manpower development in the country. NIHFW serves as an apex 'technical institute' as well as a 'think tank' to promote national health and family welfare programs in the country through education and training, research and evaluation, consultancy and advisory services, specialized projects, etc.

Nurses and midwives representing the largest section of healthcare workforce are the important drivers of any healthcare system. By virtue of its proportion and potential, the nursing and midwifery profession has the unique ability to provide effective care across the broad continuum of healthcare. In order to ensure that nurses and midwives can practice to their full extent of potential, it is essential to provide them with the opportunities for building and adopting leadership positions in healthcare system. The World Health Organization. (WHO) in collaboration with the International Council of Nursing, also announced 2020 as the 'International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife' and Nursing was launched the Nightingale Challenge 2020 as a celebration to mark 2020 Year of the Nurse and the Midwife. This challenge aims to work with healthcare employers worldwide who between them will enable 20,000 young nurses and midwives to join leadership and development programmes and build their skills as practitioners, advocates and influential leaders in healthcare. It is aimed that building global leadership of this most important workforce will be crucially important to achieve the objective of universal health coverage by 2030.

The General Objective is To build the leadership competencies of Nursing and Midwifery and build their skills as practitioners, advocates and influential leaders in healthcare.

Specific Objectives

At the end of the training course, the participants should be able:

  • To explore their roles and responsibilities as per the challenges in achieving SDG and UHC
  • To develop Leadership styles and skills and to move beyond current level of achievement by developing vision and setting new benchmarks.
  • To learn to develop strategies for becoming a change agent
  • To acquire leadership skills for scientific decision making and problem solving approach.
  • To develop an action plan for developing and applying the Leadership Skills for maximizing the potential of the available human power in the health sector for achieving the UHC and sustainable goals.

Nature of Participants

  • Senior Nursing and Midwifery health care professionals both from Central and State Health service Institutions
  • Senior Nursing and Midwifery Administrators from both Govt. and Premier private Hospitals & Nursing Colleges and other analogous organizations.
  • One or two from each state/organization to be nominated.

Course Fee

Rs. 1000/- per participant to be paid by the sponsoring organization/participant.
