RIMS Imphal BSc Nursing student found dead

Imphal- In a tragic incident, a nursing student was found dead in her hostel room. The student was pursuing BSc nursing from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
The student was in the fourth semester of nursing. The deceased has been identified as Ms. Abiel Sachiana Ch. Marak, a 21-year-old student from West Garo Hills, Meghalaya, who allegedly hanged herself on Wednesday. However, authorities are yet to release further details about the circumstances of her death.
According to the Meghalaya Monitor report, RIMS Media Cell said, “It is with deep sorrow that the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, condole the tragic death of a fourth-semester B.Sc. nursing student, Ms. Abiel Sachiana Ch. Marak, a native of Rongram in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya on the morning of Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The unfortunate incident occurred at Hostel No. 2 of Leibaklei house within the institute around 8:30 AM. A case of Unnatural Death (UD) has been registered at Lamphel Police Station under UD Case No. 8/LPS/2025, dated May 14, 202,5, and the matter is under investigation."
Meanwhile, the police have examined the deceased's phone and do not suspect any foul play. However, the post-mortem report will reveal the cause of death.
The matter is currently under investigation, and more details are awaited. Apart from this, on the instructions of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, an Additional Deputy Commissioner has been assigned the task of taking the family members to RIMS to provide assistance.
Medical Dialogues has earlier reported a similar case where a 21-year-old second-year BSc Nursing student allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself in her hostel room at AIIMS on Tuesday. The police recovered a suicide note from the spot.
