Odisha: Ineligible students approach court against contradictory orders on NEET PG Internship Completion Date
Bhubaneswar: After being declared ineligible for appearing in the State Counselling for admission to postgraduate courses, around 30 NEET-PG aspirants belonging to the academic year 2022-2023 have approached the Odisha High Court on September 16.
While the High Court has listed the matter for further hearing on September 20, many of these students got rejected by the authorities when they went for the document verification process on September 17, adds Edex Live.
They were rejected on the ground that their MBBS internship was not completed before March 31, 2022. Odisha High Court had earlier passed an order mentioning that only those students who completed their internship on or before March 31, 2022, would be termed eligible for participating in the counselling.
However, such an order by the HC contradicts the order passed by National Medical Commission (NMC). Medical Dialogues had had earlier reported that the considering the prayers and the petitions made by the students seeking an extension o the internship deadline, ultimately the deadline was extended until July 31, 2022.
As a result of these two contradictory orders, the PG medical aspirants in Odisha are facing complications since around 30 such students got rejected by the authorities because of the earlier order passed by the High Court. The students are worried about their future and they are also upset with the fact that the DMET (Directorate of Medical Education & Training) Odisha officials are not apathetic to their problem.
Edex Live adds that the students have already filed a plea before the Odisha HC on September 16. The case has been listed for an urgent hearing on September 20, an MBBS student from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla informed the daily.
While commenting on the matter, the student added, "It is also strange that the High Court should pass an order which goes against the Supreme Court."
